The Closest Egg in "The Return"
I was born on the day before Easter. Mom once wrote an
Easter birthday card to me where she explained that an egg
represents an idea that will come to fruition.
I had
been living in the camper for a full cycle of seasons when I
drew some eggs by tracing a squished roll of almost empty duct
tape. I scanned the line drawings and inserted pictures from
the image library I've been building throughout my experience.
The closest egg contains a view I've known my whole life.
When I was a child my dad decided to go down this dune to the
water's edge. Mom, my brother, and I waited all day for dad
to climb back to the top.
What took a very short time
to descend took many times longer to ascend.
After that
day my dad always warned us about how much effort it takes to
return after a quick descent. Of course, my dad always smiled
with that twinkling in his eye as he said, "It's not the
destination, it's the journey."
